The Middle Common Room (MCR) refers to both the physical space and the graduate student body of a college. The MCR committee organizes social events, supports students in a variety of areas, and acts as a liaison between students and the college.
Accommodation
Most graduates live for their first year in the college graduate accomodation in Merifield, with a few in the Dorothy Wadham Building (DWB), and some on the main college site. After that, most students on 2+ year programs “live out” – they rent privately, or use the university graduate accomodation service.
Finances
The MCR is part-funded by college, and part-funded by contributions from the indvidual graduate students.
Meals
Meals are available from the college, during term time, and less reguarly outside of term: see the college’s meal booking service for more. There are also a large number of food providers within a couple of minutes walk of the main college site.
Health and Welfare Support
Support at Wadham is available from a wide range of sources:
- The MCR Welfare VPs
- The College Welfare Officer
- University-trained students, the Wadham Peer Supporters
- The Chaplain, College Nurse, and Sub-Deans.
- The college GP’s surgery
See the links above, or the Wadham Welfare SOS for more.
Facilities
The physical middle common room is equipped with a kitchen and a bar, which is regularly open during term times and outside of term – see the MCR social media for updates.
Wadham SU
All members of the Wadham MCR are automatically also members of the Wadham Student Union (or SU – typically called the JCR in other colleges), which is the organisation of Wadham undergraduates and graduates. However, the opposite is not true.
